The numbers for football players that are assigned to each player are usually the same on all teams.

The numbers 1 through 9 are usually reserved for quarterbacks and punters but their numbers can go as high is 19. 
The numbers 10 thruogh 19 are usually reserved for quarterbacks, kickers, punters, and wide receivers. 
The numbers for wide receivers can also be between 80 and 89.
The numbers 20 through 49 are usually reserved for running backs and defensive backs  (tight ends are also permitted to use the numbers 40 through 49 if the numbers 80 through 89 are not available).
The numbers 50 to 59 are usually reserved for centers and linebackers.
The numbers 60 through 79 are for offensive and defensive lineman. 
The numbers 80 through 89 are for wide receivers and tight ends. 
The numbers 90 through 99 are for the defense  lineman and linebackers.
Knowing these numbers will help you to know who is eligible to throw the ball, catch the football, and run with the football.  linemen are not eligible on the offense team are not eligible to catch a ball, unless it has been touched by a defensive player first, or the ball was fumbled.
                            

The offensive line is to protect the quarterback and tried to make an opening for a running back.  The linemen in the middle, that hands the football to the quarterback, is called the Center, the players on the left and the right side of the Center, are called the Guards, the players on the left side and the right side of the Guards, are called the Tackles.  Then you have the Quarterback.  If the team has two Running backs, one is usually called a halfback or tailback and the other is usually called a fullback.  There are also wide Receivers that lineup towards the sidelines and you also have Tight Ends that lineup outside the offensive line.
At least seven players must line up at the line of scrimmage on every play.  The rest of the players can lineup anywhere in the backfield.
On certain plays you may have 4 wide receivers, or you may have two or three tight ends or a combination of each as long as there are only 11 players on the field. 

On the Defensive side:
You will have 3 to 6 players that lineup across from the offensive line.  They try to handle the offensive line in order to free up the Linebackers that also try to tackle the running backs or the quarterback.
The linebackers can either rushed the quarterback or stay in position to try and tackle the receiver or block a pass.  The last line of defense is called a secondary, which consist of at least 3 players that are which are called defensive backs, they are either Cornerbacks or Safetys, their main objective is to block or intercept a pass, but sometimes, they will occasionally rush the passer.

The most common penalties that you find in football are:

False Start, when a player is lined up on the line of scrimmage and moves before the ball is snapped.

Offsides, when a defensive player is on the wrong side of the football before it is snapped.

Holding, when a player grabs or holds another player who is not carrying the ball

Pass interference, to have contact with the player to prevent him from catching the ball, either offense or defense

Delay of game, failing to begin a new play before the the timeclock counts down to zero

Face mask, grabbing the face mask of another player while trying to block or tackle him

Illegal block in the back, hitting a player in the back of the opposing team

Clipping, hitting a player on the back or side below the waist

Chop block, when an offensive player tries to cut block a defensive player that is already being blocked by another player

There are more rules that a team can receive penalties for but these are the most common.

The difference between touchbacks and a safety, safety is when an offensive player is tackled, forced out of bounds, or loses the football out of bounds, or the offensive player commits a certain foul (but this rarely happens) in his own end zone is called a safety.
If an offensive player fumbles the football forward into the end zone and then the ball goes out of bounds, this is called a touchback.  Touchbacks are more common in kickoffs and punt returns.

Many disk golf enthusiasts understand that it in order to play the game well one must know how to use the correct lingo. Throwing in disk golf, for example, goes by a ridiculous number of names. So before you spend money on a bunch of disk golf supplies you should learn some of the terminology.

A helix throw produces as “S” flight shape of the disk. This is a highly-skilled shot that requires knowledge of disc flight dynamics. This shot works well to avoid obstacles in the disc golf course.

Hurdlers must be strong and powerful and have the lean, muscular physiques required for the sport. Hurdlers are most successful when they can flow over the obstacles at a high speed without breaking stride. The hurdle event is unique because it is a combination of a running race and a field event. An experienced hurdler with good technique should always beat a faster sprinter with poor style.

Many young and novice hurdlers train without any hurdles present. The athletes concentrate on getting over objects like cones that are positioned where the hurdles would normally be. Substituting cones for hurdles reduces the likelihood of injury and gives young athletes more confidence.

        American football in America and Canada is simply known as football.  It is a physical and strategy type competition where the object is to score points on the opponent’s goals, either by running, kicking or throwing the ball to score points.  You can even score points by tackling the opponents in their own end zone.

The sport is also played outside the United States.  Most people probably don’t know that the games are also played in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Japan, Mexico, in Israel, Spain, and several Pacific island nations.  The National Football League is the largest professional American football league in the world.  It ran the league in Europe from 1991 to 1992 and also again from 1995 to 2006.

The games can be traced back to earlier versions of rugby and soccer.  Like soccer 22 players are on the field, 11 on each side.  Some of the terms that are used in soccer are also used in football such as ”halfback” and ”fullback”.

The rules that were instituted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries changed the game from rugby to American football.  A couple of the rules they changed the game was the line of scrimmage, the downs and distance the ball had to be carried.

The popularity of collegiate football was the dominant version of the sport in the first half of the 20th century.  Professional football can be traced back to 1892. when, William “Pudge” Heffelfinger signed a $500 contract to play.

In 1920 the American Pprofessional Football Association was formed on October 3, 1920. The first game played was between The Triangles and the Columbus Panhandlers.  With the Panhandlers losing.14-0.  The league changed its name to the National Football League two years later.  Professional football eventually became a national phenomenon with increasing popularity being traced back to the 1958 NFL championship game, a game that has been dubbed”The Greatest Game Ever Played”.  A rival league, began to play in 1960 and the pressure put on the NFL lead to a merger between the two leagues in the creation of the Super Bowl.  The most watched television event in United States on an annual basis.

The word (Football) is given to a number of similar team sports, all of which included to various degrees, of kicking a ball with the foot to try and score a point.  The most popular of the sports known all over the world is either soccer or football.  In Australia the best-known game of football is a rugby.

Football dates back to the ancient Greek and Roman’s.  The game that was played back then was similar to rugby.  There are reports that some of these kicking games were known as ”mob football”, where unlimited amount of people, from different towns, would  form a circle and would struggle to try and kick an inflated pig’s bladder into the other towns church.

Between 1364 and 1627, football was banned in England and other parts of Europe.  Although football, in various forms continued to be played in Britain, its public schools were accredited in the creation of the modern football rules.  The earliest evidence of football being played with rules is around 1519.  In the early 16th century was when goals, sidelined, teams, referees, and coaches were added to the game.

The earlier footballs were made out of animal bladders that were blown up and later on, leather with added so the ball could keep its shape.  Many changes have been made between then and now.  And even, now in the modern football age every year the football league comes out with new football.

Football is changed from a very rugged sport with hardly any rules or protection to the body.  Again , rules have been changed and the protection that is needed to protect the body has been changed dramatically.  From kneepads to shin pads, to shoulder pads, and even pads that protect the goal posts has been added to the sport.

Although, football has changed throughout the years, whether it be European football (Soccer) or American football.  It is the most popular and most most watched sport.

American football is played on a field that is 360 feet by hundred and 60 feet.  With the outside being the sidelines and the shorter boundary lines is the goal line.  10 feet behind the goal line is called end zone.  The lines that run parallel to the sidelines are known as inbound lines or hashmarks near the middle of the field.  The play begins in between or on the hashmarks.  Lines running parallel to the goal line are marked off every 10 yards, the 50 yard line being the center of the field.  Because of too many injuries the goal posts that used to be placed on the goal line are now placed at the back of the end zone and are now padded to prevent further injuries.
